About Sewing & Design Center

Bernina Sewing and Design opened the doors for business on October 17, 2005.
 
Izzy and I were recent transplants to the Las Cruces area. We wanted to work together and decided there was no better way to do that than opening a business. The opportunity presented itself when Ann Silva (of Ann Silva's Bernina in Albuquerque) suggested we become a Bernina sewing machine dealer since there wasn't one in southern New Mexico or El Paso.
 
Considering that I have been sewing since I was 5 and quilting for the past 23+ years, working for the Little Foot Ltd company, traveling to quilt shows, various guilds and shops around the country (I even got to go to Sweden and teach) teaching the Little Foot method of foundation piecing, this seemed like a perfect fit. Izzy's 25+ years of owning his own construction and concrete company and being able to fix anything that needed fixing; he was definitely the perfect man for the repair department. (We laugh when we consider how the the repair implements have dramatically decreased in size.)
 
Adding to the mix are the wonderful people who bring amazing talents to the shop. Who would have thought when we opened the store that we would find three women with home economics degrees, a bookkeeper with POS and computer knowledge, a respiratory therapist/teacher, a computer engineer, and a woman who worked at one of the premier quilt shops in Albuquerque. When you consider that each one of these ladies love to sew and quilt and teach, I realize how blessed we are to have each one of them. They make our shop the kind of place where you receive knowledgeable, friendly service from people who understand your sewing and quilting needs. Last but not least is Izzy's right hand man, Dave, who helps keep your machines in tip top condition. From a business owner's standpoint, what more could we ask for.!!
