Handi Quilter Longarm Fun

This 3 day Handi Quilter Event features lectures and demonstrations by Handi Quilter educator Sarah Thomas! Sarah loves nothing better than sharing her longarm knowledge and enthusiasm with other quilters, and we are so excited to have her teaching these classes. You may sign up for individual classes, or join us for all of them!

Day 1

3-B's--Backgrounds, Borders, and Blocks      9am to noon

These are the basic components of many pieced quilt tops, and there are tricks to quilting them with a cohesive, overall look, while creating your own personal style. Learn how to select and adapt designs to compliment each area, and how to accomplish the quilting efficiently and easily. Tried and true fillers and "go-to" designs will be featured.

Feather Foundations      1pm to 4pm.

Feather designs always add a touch of class to any quilt, evoking a positive response from any viewer. Learn to draw and stitch these beautiful elements in many different styles, from traditional to contemporary. Then learn how to fit them into specific geometric spaces, how to turn corners, make feather wreaths and how to echo and add fills. It's easier than you think!

Day 2

Curvy Rulers Ahead  9am to noon

Fasten your seatbelts and get ready to drive! You'll be rounding corners, navigating curves, and riding up and down with this class on curved templates. Learn how to read and use the markings on the templates, and the tricks for making half circles, flattened circles, and perfectly curved lines. Create beautiful quilting designs using swags, clam shells, ovals, arcs, and half circles.

Beyond Traditional Feathers  1pm to 4pm

Beautiful feathers are a mainstay of free-motion quilters everywhere, but sometimes you find yourself ready for something a little different.  In this class, you will learn how to build feathering skills to include new shapes and styles of feathers. Then you'll learn to easily customize them to your quilting projects, both as all over designs and in designated spaces.

Day 3

Progressive Quilting with the Pro-Stitcher 9am to noon and 1pm to 4pm

After you've mastered dropping block designs and quilting edge to edge with the HQ Pro-Stitcher, you're now ready to expand and strengthen your skills. This class focuses on in-depth aspects of specific functions of the HQ Pro-Stitcher. Learn how to create continuous border and corner designs; easily digitize your own designs using the features under the Record menu; and quilt on-point designs and areas larger than the throat space of your machine.
